Elafonisi – Chrisoskalitissa Monastery

Elafonisi is situated in the western side of Crete, approximately 77km away from Chania city centre. You will find it in every tourist guide for Crete as it is one of the most exquisite beach attractions of the island.

The set is composed by a narrow strip of land surrounded by one of the most beautiful lagoons you have ever seen with crystal-clear waters and pinkish sand provided by thousands of tiny crushed shells. Looking at it from higher ground will make you think “..that is what paradise must look like!”

Please note that if you are not very fond of crowded beaches, the south side offers a number of smaller and more isolated beaches where you can better enjoy your swim.

On our way back, we will make a stop at the famous monastery of Chrisoskalitissa, a 17th-century Orthodox Christian monastery built with the form of a castle on a huge seaside rock. The view here is mind-taking as the visitor stands 35m above sea level and blue is all the eye can see.

Bonus attractions during our excursion is the breath-taking Topolia George and the picturesque church of Saint Sophia.
